Greeting, Fountain of Life Family!
With the weather turning cooler, our thoughts turn to harvest and pumpkin spice everything! Most of us know the basic history and tradition of our Thanksgiving holiday—Pilgrims, Native Americans, a big feast, you get the idea. The reasons they had for gratitude continue to be relevant even today. Pilgrim chronicler Edward Winslow wrote, “…by the goodness of God, we are so far from want.” And to think how much more we have than they did. What a wonderful reminder of the abundance we enjoy!
As we look forward to celebrating with family and friends, let us consider the source of our joy: the one true God—our Creator, Father, Savior, and Provider. Let us also consider God’s call to give back a portion what he has given us to further the work of His kingdom. On Sunday November 21, FOL will celebrate our thanksgiving and gratitude for what God has done for us. During both services that day, everyone is invited to worship God by presenting commitment cards and pledges for the coming year.
Please take time in the coming weeks to take stock of the blessings He has provided and pray about the financial commitment you or your family would like to make. As you do this, consider the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” This is an amazing opportunity for us all to demonstrate our love for God and experience his love for us!
Once you have made your decision, fill out your commitment card. Cards can be found in the Narthex, and online. Kiddos can participate too! Commitments can be fulfilled in a variety of ways. You can give weekly, monthly, or annually; in the offering plate, or online. We hope to make it simple for everyone to experience the truth that we can’t outgive God! First-time tithing can be frightening business, especially in uncertain financial times. To ease these concerns, we will once again be offering a “money-back” guarantee. If you choose to step out in faith and find that it results in financial hardship, your tithe will be fully refunded. So, there’s really nothing to lose. God always provides, one way or another. We hope that you will join in the celebration as we offer our Thanksgiving to God!
Thank you and God bless!
Your Sister in Christ,
