Special Events Choir Invite

Hey everybody, I’m Faith Marks, Director of Music at FOL and I’m here today to talk with you a little bit about worship and a special upcoming opportunity for you to serve the Lord with your musical gifts!

I love singing.  My mom would tell you that I’ve been singing since before I could speak.  I also love the Lord!  And God has placed a personal calling on my heart, and on my life, to serve him through song.  But it took me quite a while to gain the courage to follow through and serve him with my calling.

When I was nine years old, I had a dream that God came to me and told me it was time to start using my voice for him.  And then a coin fell from the sky.  I woke up, and the dream was so real that I started searching around in my bed… looking for the coin.  I remember because there were little sheep on my sheets and at one point I thought I found it but it was just a sheep.

Six years later, when I was fifteen, I joined a new youth group.  And the worship leader there heard me singing along with everyone else at our weekly meetings, and started asking me to sing with the band at the connected church.  I was terrified and turned him down.  This happened at least ten times until finally I got tired of him bugging me and gave in and said I would do it, just so he would quit bugging me!

I was terrified that first week.  But the more I did it, the more I fell in love with worshipping God in a way I had never had before.  I had finally accepted the calling he had placed on my heart, although unwillingly at first, and that gave me both joy and peace!

That is why I do what I do today.  Because a nineteen year old youth group leader bugged and bugged and bugged me until I finally agreed to sing with his band!

But I can’t do what I do alone.  I need others.  Something that God has reminded me of, time and time again. I have tried, and let me tell you, it’s much better when I have a team working together to serve the Lord.  The church is not a place:  it’s people!  I am not the foundation for worship.  God is!  This is not the Faith Marks show.

Could I sing every solo?  Sure.  Could I sing lead on every song?  I suppose.  But I believe that doing that would be a disservice to this church and to the Lord.  Why?  Because I am not the only person in this church that God has placed a calling to serve him through music.  And there are people in your life that need Jesus that YOU may encounter that I won’t.  I believe that music connects people as sort of a universal language.  There are ways that you can communicate through song that can touch the hearts of others that words alone cannot.  And part of my job as a worship leader is to help others build and use their musical skills so that they can share the love of Jesus though song.

If you’re watching this and God has been tugging at your heart, I have a question for you.  Has God blessed you with the gift of music?  Maybe it’s singing, or playing an instrument.  Maybe others have told you in the past that you should sing with the choir or band.  Maybe you like to jam on an instrument with your friends.  Maybe you always find yourself singing harmony with the radio!  You don’t need to have a dream to have a musical calling. Just a gift and love of music and a love of the Lord.

Chris and I are going to be bugging you, so to speak, about an upcoming opportunity for you to get your feet wet in music ministry here at Fountain of Life!  We are having a special unified Sunday morning worship service on October 29 at 10:30am with both band AND choir playing and singing together in celebration of the Reformation.  Go to the website listed here to sign up to sing with our special event choir!  You can also click the link if you are interested in playing an instrument, and Chris or I will follow up with you.  The web page lists the important rehearsal dates and times.

We need your help!  Invite your friends and neighbors to join the special event choir with you.  This is a way for you to help us connect people to Jesus for eternity… through song!
