Directions

Reflections on LHM Lenten Devotions

I don’t feel like this reading gets as much attention as the scriptures before and after this section.  As Jesus approached Jerusalem, we see He is moving towards the direction of the cross.  As were the Pharisees.  I’m sure Jesus wept because the very people who the Jews were running towards, Pilate and the Romans, would bring so much destruction on them and their city.  This is a great example of a common thread.  When people fear the direction that God is moving them towards, we often run the other way, and typically those do not turn out to be the direction that is best for us.  Romans 3:12 reads “All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.”  We often use the phrase turned away in our confessions.  It perfectly summarizes how it is us who lose our direction.
